October 2006 Meeting

John Kurtz, president of Kurtz Brothers, Inc., was the guest speaker for the October 3, 2006 meeting of the American Foundry Society-Toledo Chapter. The meeting was held at Sam B's Restaurant in Bowling Green, Ohio. Here, chapter chairman Tom Engle (right) presents John with a speaker's award. John spoke on recycling, especially of foundry by-products. |

Among those attending the Oct. 3 meeting were two Bowling Green State University students, Emma Laatsch (left) and Kirsten Bloomer. Enrolled in a foundry / sculpturing class at BGSU, they have constructed their own cupola and have made their own castings. |

Also at the Oct. 3 meeting, two members of the Toledo Chapter were recognized for their many years of service to the AFS. Membership chairman Jim Gary (center) presented 55-year service pins to Tom Baatz, left, and Paul Heinrichs. This is a milestone that few people achieve! |
