Scholarship Notice

The Toledo Chapter of the American Foundry Society is seeking recipients for five scholarships. These scholarships include the Gerald R. Rusk Memorial, the George B. Mauch Memorial Fund and the Vic Zang Memorial Fund. The scholarships are intended for students seeking future employment in the foundry industry. Each scholarship will be $1000.00.

The students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be presently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  2. Be at least a Junior or the equivalent (1/2 of credit hours completed toward degree).
  3. Demonstrate a curriculum geared to the foundry industry.
  4. Have a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 (A) system.

Please post this letter on your bulletin boards to announce the availability of the scholarships. The students applying are asked to:

  1. Submit a one-page statement outlining how they meet the qualifications requested below in bullet points.
  2. The student must also include a letter of recommendation from their student advisor or plant personnel manager.

To assure consideration, the letters should be received no later than December 1, 2006. The Education Committee will review the applications immediately thereafter. The students will be evaluated by cumulative scoring on the following items:

  • Proximity to the Toledo Chapter
  • If they are attending an FEF school
  • Letter of Recommendation from a key professor, student advisor, or plant personnel manager
  • GPA - overall
  • Career intentions pertaining to the foundry industry
  • Relative of a local chapter member (son or daughter)

Successful students will be notified during the second week of February, 2007. The scholarships will be awarded at the March Toledo Chapter meeting. The scholarship recipients, advisors, and parents will be invited to the meeting.
